A-Z Weather (poem)

pleasant day is what we want in Summers!
Because it's very hot.
Cream with mangoes is yummy! It can be eaten as
Dessert, or an ice cream, as we go for a walk or a trot!

Extreme cold, snowflakes in Winter,
Fog and hail surround us too!
Good hot tomato soup, with croutons extra,
Hungrily lapped up by children, with some warm stew.

I am also one of those who
Just love the rains!
Kids with gum boots jump in muddy puddles,
Loving the weather, not bothering with the stains!

Most of the time, Autumn is pleasant,
Nice weather cool breeze,
Oh, the beautiful red and golden leaves,
Prettily falling from their tall trees!

Quails can be heard in Spring,
Replying to us with their melodious tweeting!
Somewhere hidden amongst the trees,
Twittering and cheeping and trying to sing!

Umpteen other things can be seen in nature,
Variety of plants and different creatures,
Weather changes when the earth moves around the sun,
'Xciting seasons come and go every few months.

You might think this poem lovely but long, like from
Zimbabwe to China to Dubai to Shillong!

TinkleToes - the Dairy Fairy! (poem)

TinkleToes the little fairy,
Works in Fairyland's dairy!

She has a cow, her name is Bessy,
And while milking her, she does get messy!

She pasteurises the milk or sells it fresh,
And to keep it safe from flies and bugs, covers it with a mesh.

She makes cottage cheese with this milk,
Soft and bumpy, but not smooth as silk!

The creamy chocolates and flavoured yoghurts,
Don't eat them all at once; eat them in spurts!

Sweet 'n' spicy buttermilk to cool down when feeling hot,
And warm vanilla milkshakes, in a carton or small pot!

The cheese she makes, Mozzarella, Gouda etc,
So soft and yummy, comes in boxes and best enjoyed with tetra!

And the best is the ice cream, in every flavour possible!
Chocolate, vanilla, butterscotch, strawberry and gum bubble!

You can visit her any time, by taking the Fairy Folk Rail,
But first take an appointment, and send it by e-mail!

Her phone number is 2701-TToes
And e-mail 2701@Tinkle.Toes!

You'll get the tastiest dairy products here, the shop is called Bessy 'n' TToes',
And just beside it, there is, for you and your friends, Dame Sweetbun's Marshmallows!

Cap'n Pegleg Meg (poem)

A storm was up,
 In th' mornin' bright,
'n I, th' scurvy pirate said, "Ahoy!"
" Me buckos, let 'tis be not a toy!"

"To start th' day, lets sharpen our swords,
then let th' cannons roll,"
"Yarr cap'n, then let the anchor loose!"
"Sounds nice, me sailing partners,, I'll not let ye choose!"

When finally th' ship was sailin' 'n up,
I thought ' bout me broken pegleg
'n looked up in th' sky, th' sun
Me golden pegleg gleamin' , like a special one

Then me bucks cap'n McCallister cried out,
"Matey, thar be a dragon out thar,
change  th' route, change it, ye fool!"
"Shut up 'n let me sail", said I, wavin' a chicken pegleg 'n he drools.

In 'bout a week from then,
Me 'n me shipmates reached land.
"Set anchor, ahoy, Pondy! Ye idiot,
Now I'll not let ye rest, I'll snatch ye hut!"

We read th' map 'n dug up th' treasure,
Oh, what a beauty o' gems 'n diamonds!
"Hi-ho, me beauty!" Said I.
"We'll sail back to our land", said cap'n Pegleg Meg, I!

"We sailed back 'n had parties, a lot!
Th' treasure mostly with me."
"Th' adventure done, mission complete,
'n I, Pegleg Meg, was now on me throne, me seat!"

The Orthopedic and Tigger (poem)

One day there was a tiger big,
In an orthopedic's chair;
On its head there was a wig,
And in it's eyes, a hungry glare.

He said, "Oh doctor, look at my bones!
They are so thin and weary; they should be like stones!"
The doctor said, "Umm..ok bro! I'll try to fix your bones so thin."
When he said 'bro' he really didn't mean the tiger as his kin!

Old Tigger said, "Bend down a bit,
'Cause if you stand, then I can't sit"
The doctor was as pale as cheese,
And thought, "Can someone please put me at ease?"

Said Tigger, "Come on, move on, you silly thing,
or give me something for chewing!"
The doctor fearfully said, "Okay."
As he had no courage for anything else to say.

He bent down a bit to sit,
And Tigger said, "Oh, stupid twit!"
I'm gonna eat you yes, I am!
I'll savour you with bread and jam!"

Suddenly a lady came in and screamed,
"Oh, Tiggy, little cubby, you were lost it seemed!"
And she started crying like a mad woman,
But suddenly took from her pocket a gun!

She said, "Naughty Tiggy, up to your tricks?"
"If you eat that man, I'll beat you with bricks!"
The doctor said,"Take it away! I hate animals, okay?"
The woman thanked the doctor for being gentle with Tiggy,
Put him on a leash, and went with a sway!

What to do? (poem)

I can't think of a poem,
What do I do?
Draw? Eat gum?
Or polish a shoe?

Write just anything?
Not worrying if it's horrendous?
Dance or sing?
Or play with a toy bus?

Should I read a book thoroughly?
Or should I take a nap?
Talk to people peevishly?
Or collect rubber tree sap?

I don't have any theme,
What do I write?
Maybe I'll just post these points
Before they go out of sight!

My Feelies (poem)

When I am bored,
In my mind nothing gets stored,
I don't want to sleep,
Or hear my alarm clock's beep.

When I'm happy,
I would like a chilled Appy;
And I'll play with my friends,
With a smile at all ends!

When I'm sad, I don't want to talk,
I feel I want to be, by the sea, on a rock.
Sometimes I cry in my bed,
"Love you baby!" until Mumma's said.

When I'm angry, I want to shout
Throw things and jump about!
I am rude, when angry, you know?
Can hit anybody, friend or foe!

When I'm scared, I want to be with mom,
I don't let her go, even to fill an important form.
I'll stick to her like a tail, at home,
And alone, I would not roam.

When I'm disgusted, I can be sarcastic.
Like when I see public washrooms and dirty plastic!
Dustbins etc and all things yuck,
Or food between teeth, stuck.

When I'm writing poems, I'm thoughtful.
I am, like, swept into it, full!
I write fast, I write well,
Surreal imaginations and lovely stories I tell!

I wonder how! (poem)

I wonder how a little seed grows,
And how the cool breeze blows;

How the trees don't need to work hard,
And how the ATM works with just one card.

How the stars don't fall to ground,
And mice make the littlest sound;

How water flows and never stops,
And all our farmers grow the crops.

How do the phones call,
And a skyscraper stands so tall;

How are shoes made,
And in knives there is a blade.

How do we live, on this planet,
Did we come by a train or a jet?

How is life so wonderful,
With nature, concrete and us, it's beautiful!

Busy Bee Me

My dearest Kiddylane friends,
I haven't written poems these past few weekends,

Because of some important reasons,
And the change of seasons!

Mom said I should have,
But I would have,
If I could have!

I had a meeting with Barack Obama,
He wanted to discuss with me a world championship for drama!

Then I went to Thomas Martin Einstein's
tracking lab, to track a lost UFO, what science!

Next I had to go to Burj-al-Arab and Burj Khalifa,
To have Arabic coffee and cardamom tea with Sheikh Khalifa!

Later when I reached home, I found out about my broken ceiling,
And I had to live in a tribal tent, talk about a scary feeling!

So, the ceiling is repaired now,
My little cousin did it somehow!

Finally, I can write my poem tonight,
With my mind so fresh and bright;

Bye comrades, I have to now go home,
'Coz tomorrow again, I'm meeting the Pope in Rome!

And I hope you believe my words,
These aren't excuses for not writing,
I really really would have,
If I really really could have!

Some Things About Me (poem)

Some things about me,
Are not just to see;
But to know and to feel,
Some things about me.

I am good, I am smart,
And would like a nice tart;
I am awesome in art,
And I am good, I am smart!

I am a prefect in my school,
And I'm strict, about the rule;
Eat your food, then play cool,
'Cause I'm a prefect in my school!

Am I the funny-kind? Yes I am!
And I also like mixed fruit jam,
Love bread and tea, don't know what's yam,
Am I the funny-kind? Yes I am!

I love my mom, of course  I do!
And the mushroom she makes, makes me drool;
I adore her, she adores me too,
Do I love my mom? Of course I do!

I write poems by the alphabet,
No one can write so fast, I bet;
And so nice, in a rhyming set,
I sure do write poems, by the alphabet!

A Red Moon Night (poem)

Once in a forest,
Called Shushh, shoo
There was a twit-too-woo.
It was an owl, not taking any rest.

He was as white as milk,
Staring at the moon,
He had a feeling, something was going to happen soon,
Because the moon was red, looking as smooth as silk.

The squirrel family, and the badgers,
All were scampering around.
Running in fear, on the rocky ground,
They also knew, that the forest could burn like crackers.

There were shadows, and howls,
And the animals were cold.
Shivering, and they rolled,
To keep themselves warm, and safe, from the fowls.

The moon glowed like a half cut apple,
All was silent.
No noise was heard, but there was a scent,
A scent, of danger, of.. scrapple.

There was a wild animal about,
It was howling, it was- Aahhhhhh!
No, it's a wolf, oh no, what now?
The bright red moon, shone bright on it, eating a trout.

Wait, I heard a shot!
And another!
Oh, are people hurting each other?
No, it's the wolf, caught.

Ha! It's now in a van, caged.
The owl hoots, rotating his head, 180 degrees,
The squirrels, the badgers, are now at ease.
This story just ends, and like the wolf, is here, caged.

School Birthday (poem)

Happy birthday happy birthday!
My dear Springdales,
You've just crossed 60,
And now 61 is your age!

Peace, Amity, Endeavour, Felicity,
Are four of the eight houses,
The others, Forward, Unity, Freedom, Equality,
All stand together with strong articulate voices!

UTs and Dictations,
Are now part of daily schedule,
Some are easy, some difficult,
But all have to be studied for, and that's the rule!

There are prefects and captains,
And I'm a prefect too,
Under the oath, in the long breaks and dispersal,
Our duties we do.

Mrs. Rajni Kumar (aka Nani Kumar!)
Is the mom of our principal,
Not only a nani but also the founder,
Of our lovely Springdales school.

Any problem in Junior school,
goes to ma'am Maleyvar, the headmistress;
But in senior school, if there's a problem,
Its straight away to the principal; so keep them less!

Our school's motto is,
Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam!
It means the world is a family,
All stuck together, like with glue and gum!

Music, SUPW, Dance and Art,
Are extra-curricular activities;
And only talented kids can be in special groups,
Like in the Choir, which sings in many festivities.

The Audi and Bal Vatika,
Are places for events,
The big field,
for carnivals, is meant.

The teachers, most importantly,
Are the people who teach us what we know!
The sun, the land, the water,
The mountains, and the snow.

Our childhood will continue in this very place,
It's such a lovely school;
Play and study will keep us going,
Springdales is number one, and it's students are super cool!

Rainy Day (poem)

What a day! What a time!
When there's rain,
Yummy pakoras and chutneys
Is what we gain!

We have warm tomato soup,
Only when there are breadsticks;
But ice cream is another option,
That's yummier and kids finish it with greedy licks!

Raincoats and gum boots,
Are dreaded by kids;
But rain without the coats and boots,
Makes them happy, but sometimes sick.

After the raining has stopped,
Kids go out in their lawn;
To jump up and down in muddy puddles,
And when tired, they start to yawn!

Then the sunny days come by,
Sometimes there's a drizzle or two;
But the heavy rains are always the best!
And the poem's over, thank you!

Tick Tock Clocks! (poem)

Tick tock tick tock,
Says the common clock,
It's only a normal one.

But the Grand High Clock
Doesn't say tick tock.....
It says
DING DONG DING DONG!!!!

The sleepy clocks are always snoozing
And from their mouths, saliva is oozing!

The lazy clocks are always running late
But they work normally after they ate!

The skyscraper clocks are big and tall
And some of them are taller than a mall!

Bodybuilder clocks never break,
But sometimes put their mechanism at stake!

These are just some of them
There are more in the world of time
There are perfect clocks and imperfect clocks
But I'll tell you about them when we meet next time!

Fantasy Valley (poem)

One day when I was
Walking in my garden
I saw a white rabbit
With a heavy-looking burden

I just casually asked it
Oh poor thing, is that heavy?
And it answered! In proper English
No dear it's not, and I'm quite steady

I was surprised,
Very very
And more surprised
When it offered me a berry!

Then it led me to a hole
Big enough for an elephant!
He took my hand and jumped into the hole
And just as we landed, I saw a skeleton!

Then rabbit said
Welcome to Fantasy Valley!
Then hand in hand, we ran towards a shop
And saw a board which said Tea and Snack Alley!

We went there and had a cup
Of chocolate lemon tea
And then we ate honey chilli cake
And a purple strawberry!

After we ate, the rabbit said
It's time for you to go
And whoosh! opened the ground beneath us
And we were home, behold and lo!

My eyes were closed in the come-back trip
And when I opened them
I saw the rabbit smiling at me
Then in a blink, he disappeared, leaving a sparkling gem!

What I did this weekend! (poem)

I woke up in the morning and took my bath,
Then I had my yoga class;
Then I had to eat my food,
And attend a violin class!

I came back home after one hour,
Lay down and took some rest;
Then started my school homework,
I really did my best!

I then read some books,
And watched a little TV,
When the clock struck five, I went out to play,
With my neighbourhood friend whose name is Kashvi.

We both played till seven pm,
Then I went back home;
I had a yummy dinner,
Then soaked myself in bubbles and foam!

Unity in Diversity (poem)

Here I am in my pretty house,
Thinking of differences between a possum and a mouse;
One animal, so different from the other,
Yet so similar like kin and brother.

And then I wonder,
"What's more striking?"
Their difference or similarity,
Their diversity or unity?

I look around my neighbourhood,
People are so good;
Some speak Marathi, some Punjabi,
Some Bengali, and I speak Hindi;
Like multicoloured gems in a bag,
All saluting the same tricolour flag.

Doctor, engineer, scientist and farmer,
All of them are knights in shining armour;
Holi, Eid, Christmas and Rakshabandhan,
Celebrating them all, makes us Indian!

Like moles, tigers, elephants and zebras,
Show nature's biodiversity;
Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Christian,
Show India's rich diversity.

They say India stands for secularity and sovereignty,
I say we stand for unity in diversity!

Notting Hill (poem)

Mum's favourite English movie
Is "Notting Hill"
And if it's on,
Throughout, on the couch, she can sit still!

The actor and actress
Are Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant;
She can see this movie anytime,
And if she has to wait, she can't!

Hugh is called William Thacker,
And Julia is Anna Scott;
I think my mom can recite this movie,
Like a poem in school is taught!

This movie is a rom-com,
And makes my mother smile;
Whenever it comes on TV, we watch
Every time, not just once a while!

I have watched the movie so many times,
All characters from it I know;
Spike, Honey, Bella, Bernie,
I think I like this movie too!

So now on a Sunday afternoon that's lazy,
We together watch Notting Hill, whoopsy daisy!!

My Evil Twin! (poem)

I have a very evil twin,
And we both are like yang and yin!

She breaks a vase,
And breaks a glass,
And puts the blame on me!
And when mommy
Comes out to see,
She cries like a baby!

Sometimes she steals,
Money and  meals,
With not a bit of shame;
She tells lies,
And then she buys,
Whatever she can claim.

That is my sis,
Always trying to diss;
She looks just like me,
So I get into trouble everyday,
That's when I want to wish her away,
And say hip hip hurray yippee!

Meri Dilli (poem)

Bharat ki Rajdhani hai Dilli,
Bahut si cheeze yahan dekhne wali;
Qutub Minar Aur Lal Qila,
Bahut sundar hai yeh zila!

Meri Dilli,
Mein hai Aravalli,
Behti hui Yamuna ki dhara,
Aur pedo par chidiyon ka basera!

Jaade ki sardi,
Ne hai had paar kardi,
Aur Garmi se haal sabka,
Hota bahut behal!

Doda barfi, Kaju katli,
Aur mithai ghantewali;
Chat papdi, dahi bhalle,
Kha kar karte balle balle!

Holi Aur Diwali,
Do utsav bade achhe;
Holi mein rang aur pichkariyan,
Aur Diwali mein phuljhadi jalate bachche!

Lo bhaiya Dilli meri,
Sabh bata diya uske baare mein;
Agar aap bhi ho Dilliwasi,
Toh ye sabh hoga aapki bhi pehchaan mein!

The World of My Dreams (poem)

If I were the creator,

Of the world huge and wide;
The world of my dreams,
Would be on the nicer side!

All animals will be wild and happy,
No one will be a pet;
But they will be cleaned and fed,
By people whom they have met!

All things would be free!
Or they could cost ₹1;
And if the most expensive car will cost ₹2,
Then we will have so much fun!

It would have no thieves,
Or kidnappers;
All good people will live happily,
And look nice and dapper!

The roads and our houses,
Will always stay clean;
No matter what time it is,
No traffic on the roads will be seen!

There will be no violence,
And no fight;
People will be safe and friendly,
With everyone, even at night!

The greenery will maximise,
And there will be hills and forests too;
No poachers, no hunters,
To kill endangered animals and birds like Cockatoo!

The weather will be pleasant always,
No extreme cold, no extreme humidity;
You will only need to wear cotton clothes,
and roam about the city!

We will have robots,
And the most high-tech gadgets;
To help us in our daily lives,
For cooking and cleaning boxes and baskets!

This is how the world will be,
The world of my dream;
Merrily merrily totally happily,
Flowing along life's stream!

Me! (poem)

A stands for artistic,
     That is what I am!

N stands for nice,
     That's how my work is!

O is for Oh My God,
     Because this is not what a child of 9 could do!

U is for useful,
     I am very, because my brains are good!

S spells smart,
     Well, the description of the word just above!

H is for happy,
     And I'm always happy!

K says kind,
     I am kind to one and everyone!

And lastly....
A is for astounding,
     Because I am capable of being so!

~ Anoushka Sabnis

What peace means to me

What peace means to me - Is a world with smiles and glee! No wars or terrorist attacks, Or stolen goods in sacks. Friends...
